My Favorite Hobbies

Updated: Mar 31, 2024

Tokyo has been a wonderful place to fulfill two of my main hobbies: running and photography. While running in Hawaii is quite enjoyable in itself, the amount of times I’ve ran in Hawaii must be over thousands of times. The same sceneries, people, atmosphere, temperature would surely drive any person into pure boredom. While I have tried running at different routes and times of the day, there is only so much variation you could do in a place as tiny as Oahu. Thus when I first began running in Japan, I was pleasantly surprised.

Japan is simply an absolutely beautiful place to run in. The natural scenery, architecture, nature, everything about it is splendidly contrasting from that of Hawaii. One of my absolutely favorite parts about running in Japan is also the difference in temperatures. At the time of this writing, it is currently winter and the average temperature is 50 degrees Fahrenheit making it a very chilling and cozy time to run. Perhaps this is all simply due to it being a change of scenery but running in Japan feels entirely relaxing and time seemingly flies past in an instant.

(This is the Imperial Palace at night time and is the place where I often find myself running around!)

As for my other favorite hobby, photography, it has been a wonderful experience for me. Japan is quite a vast place filled with many history-rich landmarks and destinations. Whether it be the temples, shrines, architecture, or simply the natural landscape, everything feels beautiful and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Everyday, it feels like I encounter something worth taking a photo and I am simply just shocked. One of my goals while living here in Japan is definitely to travel to as many prefectures and cities as possible and to photograph my journey.
